5 Ways To Keep Your Guests Entertained At Your Wedding

Entertainment is a big thing at a wedding and no wedding is complete without it. In order to get the entertainment that’s right for you, time should be taken when choosing.

DJs

There are many different types of entertainment that you could incorporate into your wedding. First up - DJs.

This type of entertainment can be very personal, they are as keen as you to fill the dance floor and will do whatever they can to make your wedding as fun as possible. They will also take requests meaning you and your guests can tailor the music to what you want to hear.

You can also provide them with a list before the wedding of ‘do not play’ and ‘must play’ music/tracks. This will mean you will avoid disappointment with the music that is being played. They will however require a fair amount of space to set up, so bear this in mind when choosing a venue.

Live Band

Another type of entertainment you could have is a live band. People have live bands in order to make their wedding seem more formal and upmarket. There’s something for everyone, be it a seven piece horn section or a tribute rock band.

You choose the music and they’ll fill the dance floor. Live bands are also not as expensive as you might think so look around and see what great deals you can get on them! Along the same lines you can also hire a singer or singers for your big day. There is a vast array of wedding singers from the traditional love song to opera and 40s wartime tributes. Alternatively, if you see somebody singing and you like their voice, why not ask them if they will join you at your wedding?

Garden Games

Garden games are another type of entertainment that can be fun and get your guests talking and laughing together. They will also allow the younger guests at your wedding to enjoy themselves.

There are many different types of garden games, here are a few of our favourites:

· Croquet

· Garden connect 4

· Giant jenga

· Lawn chess

A slight ‘upgrade’ if you will, from the garden games, is a village fête theme. This will need a larger space than your normal garden games but a coconut shy, helter skelter, ferret racing and splat the rat will definitely excite all of your guests.

Photo Booth

A photo booth is a type of entertainment that is becoming more and more popular at weddings. It doesn’t require a lot of space and is relatively cheap for the hours of fun it can provide.

Photo booths come with a box of fun props that guests can use to make as many funny pictures as they can. These pictures will then be printed off there and then given to your guests as a memento of the day. It can also be used as a guestbook, if guests write a message on their photo and put it in a box for the bride and groom to view at a later date.

Magicians

Magicians are another piece of entertainment that you may want to consider at your wedding, after all everybody loves a good magician! This will not only appeal to the older guests, but the younger guests at your wedding will be entertained for hours.

Magicians don’t tend to be too expensive and relative to other entertainment types they are cheap. They will not require a lot of space and will be able to put on a show for the entire time you have specified you would like them there.

Here are a few tips for choosing your entertainment:

  1. Ask for a reference or testimonial even if they have them on their website.

  2. Find out if they have a valid public liability insurance certificate. Your venue may ask for this and if it cannot be provided they will not be allowed to perform.

  3. Don’t automatically pick the cheapest option; you get what you pay for!

  4. Give clear guidelines of what you want from your entertainers.

  5. Ask if they’ll take requests.

  6. Watch them perform first to make sure you like them live.

  7. Use their network to book any other services you need.

  8. You should also make sure your act is well looked after during their time with you and make sure you tell them what you thought afterwards. This will allow them to improve for other weddings and will also mean they will be more inclined to choose you over other people for future celebrations, if you chose to have them again.

There are lots of entertainment ideas to choose from but, remember, you don’t have to settle with one. Some couples like to have a wedding singer or musician playing as the bride makes her first appearance, some couples may decide to have musicians playing when you arrive at the venue and then a DJ to kickstart the evening for a few hours.

To amp up the party, couples will often then have a live band to see you through until the early hours (this depends on how long you can stay at the venue for!).
